August Rush

This movie was pleasantly good. I remembering seeing the previews and thought it looked ok, but it was much better. The music in the movie was great, a good story, great acting, not much else to say.
I'll give a little about what this movie is about. August Rush is a story of a boy who is in an orphanage, who has been there since birth. He believes that he can feel his parents thru music. This child has the most amazing gift when it comes to music. He here's noises surrounding him and he puts them all together and all of a sudden he's listening to an orchestra with the sounds, amazing. Any way, the boy goes on a search to find his parents, of whom he's never met.

Rambo

Well Rambo sure done got a lot more gruesome. The first 3 for their time had lots of blood and gore, but this was a whole new level. You see people getting shot and their bodies rip in two, but the scenes cut to the next shot very quickly, so you don't see a whole lot.

Other than the bunch of gore, Rambo on the whole was a pretty solid movie. It picks up with John Rambo, pretty much living iscolated from the rest of the world, he lives on the outskirts of Burma and lives in a boat that he uses to go upstream and find dangerous snakes that the townspeople places bets on in snake battles.

Then one day a group of missionaries from the states come to see if they can hire Rambo to take them upstream in his boat into Burma so they can help the sick and wounded. Rambo who has lost all faith in humanity reluctantly takes them up stream. When the missioaries end up getting captured by the Burmanese armie, Rambo is then hired to take a group of mercenaries into Burma to rescue the misisonaries. We all know how this one is gonna turn out, but the surprise that I had with this movie is that Rambo doesn't do it all alone this time around, he actually works with the mercenaries.

Good movie

The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford

LLLLLLLLooooooooooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggggg and Sssssllllllllooooooooowwwwwww. I went into watching this thinking, it was going to be something like Young Guns and Young Guns II movies, a typical western, lots of shooting and action. Boy was I mistaken, it started out with a scene that makes you think, ok right from the start a train robbery this is going to be a good movie, but that was it. Nothing the rest of the movie, just riding to someone's farmhouse and talk, then Jesse leaves and goes to another farmhouse and talks to some other people, then he does it all over again, sometimes going back to one of the previous farmhouses, but in winter. I should have realized it's gonna be a slow one, Robert Ford joined into the gang after the James gang was pretty much retired, but come on, throw us a friggin bone here, a little action would have been good.

Bee Movie

Just finished watching. Pleasantly surprised at this movie. Out of all the movies that have been released this past week, this was the last one that I thought that I'd really enjoy.
Jerry plays a bee who has just finished school and is about to embark on his calling, working in the hive, but he hasn't ventured out of the hive and seen the world. He meets up with a human and begins a conversation with her after she saved his life, and opens his eyes to the most inhuman thing that he's ever seen in his whole life, Bee farms. He begins a quest to sue all of humanity for stealing honey from the bee race. It was very enjoyable, good for all ages.

Hitman

Lots of shooting and more shooting. Not as much as Shoot em Up, but still a whole bunch. Timothy Olyphant plays a hitman, who was raised essentially to keep going till the jobs done. His assignment is to kill the Russian president, but only to find after he completed his assignment that he didn't kill him and that he was set up and is now a target. And oh did I mention lots of shooting.

Michael Clayton

Finally got around to watching the movie. I'm not really sure what to think. The movie was slow, it had a good ending. I'm not sure if I agree with all of the oscar nominations that it's up for Michael Clayton (George Clooney) has a nack for negotiating with people to get what he wants, either by pursasion or by bribes. Michael Clayton works for a big law firm, that is essentially an outsourced lawfirm working for a much bigger client, who is up against an enormous class action lawsuit. The lead council for the firm has essentially a psycotic episode and Michael Clayton is a very good friend of his, is assigned to bring him back to sanity and get him back on his medication. The only thing is that the lead council may have been on to something that could sway the class action lawsuit, and the big client wants to silence everyone that knows something. Dealing with this and his day to day life is essentially what this movie is about.

The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising

May I have the last couple of hours back.
This was dumb. This movie is about a boy who on his 14th birthday finds out he has magical powers, which sort of sounds strangly familiar, wasn't there a 7 series set of books of which 5 movies have been made about a boy wizard who on his birthday was told he was a wizard, oh wait Harry Potter was 11, so it's a completely different story. I don't know where to start on how dumb this movie was, so I figure I just won't. All I can say is, was the writers strike going on when this movie was written, because if I wrote about a day in the life of my dog, it would be more compelling than this rubbish. Don't bother watching.

Beowulf

Well just finished watching. It was sort of like Shrek meets 300. The animation in the film was amazing, I kind of wish that I had seen the movie in the theatres in the 3D. Action seens would have been great in the theatre, although they were pretty damn good at home, but you know what I mean. The movie itself was ok, I never read the book, so I don't know if the movie followed the story that closely. I would recommend the movie if you are looking for something with some great animation and action scenes, but for anything else, I wouldn't recommend the movie. Unless you want to see it because you read the book and want to see how closely it follows along. On a brighter note, it was a whole better than the 2005 release of the same story-- Beowulf and Grendle, which was a total waste of time watching.

The Comebacks

Well if you've got an hour and 40 minutes with nothing to do, this probably isn't going to fill that void either. This movie is a stupid spoof of sports themed movies. There was nothing in this movie that remotely resembled humour. This would be the old animal house movies gone bad. Actually the animal house movies were pretty damn stupid as well. Oh well, watch it if you want to, but I definately wouldn't recommend it, but hell I didn't recommend I Am Legend either.

Juno

Well I wasn't sure what to think about this when I read the info on IMDB.com. I mean a movie about a highschool girl that gets pregnant and the father is her geeky friend, and she's wants to give the baby up for adoption once it's born. But I have to tell that I found this movie quite good. It had just the right amount of humour throughout the movie. It was a good story surrounding what the main character Juno was going thru during her pregnancy, her families reactions, her changing relationship with the geeky friend, and her relationship with couple that she's chosen to be the adoptive parents. Now don't get me wrong this would definately be classified as a chick flick, more of a highschool chick flick, but it's surprisinly good. Give it a try.

The Hunting Party

I'm not sure what to think of this movie, it seemed sort of slow, but a had a few redeeming moments in the movie that give you a chuckle. Richard Gere plays a washed up journalist and Terrance Howard plays Gere's cameraman. The two reported on the war in the former Yugoslavia and are now trying to hunt down the largest war criminal from the war to get an "interview" with him.

The Bucket List

I couldn't wait to see this movie, when I first saw the commercial on t.v. I remember saying Jack and Morgan this is gonna be a freakin good movie. It did have it's moments, I thought that it would be non stop laughfest. Morgan Freeman with his dry sense of humour, and come on now, Jack Nicholson, he's hilarious. I thought that I'd be laughing my butt off. The movie did have it's moments, don't get me wrong it was a good movie, seemed a little slow in parts, but it's a movie about two strangers that become good friends in the cancer ward of a hospital, that embark on a journey to accomplish a list of things before they "kick the bucket". I would recommend this movie, although go into the movie knowing that I found Morgan's sense of humour (dry) seemed to get most of the good jokes in the movie, Jack was good, but I didn't find that the writers wrote some good jokes for Jack.

The Great Debators

Well what can I say about this movie, other than fantastic. I thought that the story was great, about a debate team from a black school in the I believe it was the 30's. It is also based on a true story. The professor ( Denzell Washington) challenged the members of the debate team and made them so good that they were able to go on and challenge the Harvard University Debate Team. I'm definately not going to tell you what happens with the debate, you'll have to see it for yourself. I would certainly recommend watching this movie to anyone. Great Movie.

The Bourne Ultimatum

Wow, is all I can really say about this movie. I loved the first two movies, The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, but holy crap I didn't think that they could outdo both of them. If you can't tell I liked this movie a lot. If you've been living under a rock for the past 5 years, the bourne series is about Jason Bourne who is a paid assassin for the U.S. government who in the first movie woke up in the beginning of the movie with amnesia and slowly started to get his memory back. Meanwhile the government is trying to track him down and kill him because he botched the job that he was on. I don't want to give away the whole series, but in this movie there is still a little bit of his memory that he doesn't have back yet and a few more questions that he needs answered. All three of the movies are pretty much non-stop action and suspense. Watch all three.

I am Legend

Now I'm not sure if anyone else out there agrees with me or not on this one, but I thought that this was probably one of the biggest wastes of a few hours that I have ever spent. Yeah sure it has Will Smith and I usually like his movies, but I thought that this movie was waaaaayyy too long and boring. If you're haven't heard of this movie it's a movie about a man who is the last man standing after a plague destroy's most of the world and turned the rest of the world into monsters. Will's character is trying to find a cure for the monsters to tame them and even turn them back. There were a couple of quick moving camera scenes that kind of make you dizzy watching it, and the rest of the movie was Will going about his routine during the day, driving around with his dog, talking to himself and various manequins that he has positioned around the city so he can pretend that there is still life in the city. I know a lot of people that liked this movie, but I certainly wasn't one of those people.

Gone Baby Gone

This is a new movie that I didn't really hear anything about. It's directed by Ben Affleck, and the main star is his younger brother Casey Affleck. Casey's character is private detective hired by a family of a kidnapped girl in south boston where he's lived all of his life and everyone in the neighborhood knows him. Casey is hired because the family believes that Casey would have a better chance of finding the little girl because they believe people from the neighborhood would probably talk to him instead of the police. I didn't have much for expectations going into this, due to the fact that Ben directed it, but I was pretty damnd surprised. I thought that the movie has a great story, it seemed a little on the long side, but a good surprise in the end. I would recommend this movie, if you aren't looking for an action flick, but a good drama.
